One person and more than 300 cows have been reportedly dead in a fresh attack in Bassa local government of Plateau state, the Police command in Plateau state has said.
The incidence occurred at about 8pm on Monday evening when unknown gunmen launched an attack on Maiyanga village in Miango district of Bassa LGA Plateau state.
The Police Public Relation Officer DSP Terna Tyopev, in a statement on Wednesday, explained: “The Plateau State Police Command, Jos received information on 29/04 /2019 at about 0800hrs to the effect that unknown gunmen attacked Maiyanga area of Miango District as a result, one Jummai Jah ‘F’ 25yrs and Emmanuel Ishaya ‘M’ 37yrs were killed.
“While a 7- month- old girl Tabitha survived with a neck injury and is receiving treatment at Enos Hospital at Miango.”
The police added: “The information also emphasized that Monday Audu of Rotsu village also in Miango District was shot and matched to death.
“While the investigation into these crimes were ongoing, the Command on 30/04 /2019 at about 0730hrs received information that about 319 cattle were attacked and killed, 12 cattle were maimed while 11 cattle were rustled.
“Two cattle rearers; one Mubarak Yakubu and one Shehu Saidu both male of different addresses were missing.
“All these allegedly took place in Billi and Ariri in Miango District.
“The Command has mobilised a search and rescue team to rescue the missing rearers while efforts are on the way to track and arrest the perpetrators of these dastardly acts.
“The Command has also mobilised a combined team of Police Mobile Force (PMF) and Detective personnel to the affected areas to maintain law and order.”
Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and the Jonde Jam Fulani Youth Association has earlier raised alarm over the attack, claiming over 300 cows allegedly killed by the gunmen belonged to it members.
State MACBAN Chairman, Muhammad Nuru Abdullahi said 29 carcasses had been found in Kuru on Tuesday morning while 314 were counted in Maiyanga, near the School of Accountancy in Kwal district of Bassa local government area.
Abdullahi said the attack had also claimed the life of Shehu Saedu while Mubarak Adamu was still missing.
He also claimed the cows belonged to Dauda Jalo, Inusa Jalo, Mohammed Adam, Sani Alhassan, Abdulkadir Saeed, Kabiru Mohammed, Yakubu Mahmud and Auwal Abubakar.
The police did not confirm if any arrest has been made.
