A faction of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere said it has thrown its weight behind the reelection bid of President Muhamadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo ahead of the February 16 Presidential election.
This endorsement comes in the wake of the Ohaneze Ndigbo announcing its endorsement of PDP’s Presidential Candidate and his Vice, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
Although a faction of Ohaneze Ndigbo claimed there is no endorsement of any presidential candidate in the south east.
The Afenifere faction led by Senator Ayo Fasanmi while announcing the endorsement on Tuesday in Ibadan urged Yoruba to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates.
The endorsement was part of the activities at the Pan-Yoruba summit organized by Afenifere held in Ibadan. Fasanmi stressed that the support of the South-West for the APC candidates is in the best interest of the region.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who was the special guest of honour at the event urged the group to stay committed to restructuring of the country point out that it is the best for national development.
Senator Biyi Durojaiye from Ogun State who read the document affirming the support for Buhari and Osinbajo’s reelection moved the motion for the group’s endorsement, and he was seconded by representatives of the six states in the region: Tajudeen Olusi (Lagos), Yemi Alade (Ekiti), Professor Bayonle Ademodi (Ondo), Sooko Adewoyin (Osun), Iyiola Oladokun (Oyo) and the women representative, Mrs. Kemi Nelson.
