Former Ajax midfielder Finidi George led Super Eagles recorded resounding victory against the Black Stars of Ghana at the Stade Marrakech Stadium.
With two goals from Cyriel Dessers and Ademola Lookman, the Super Eagles legend secured his maiden win as interim head coach of the national team.
However, Ghana’s Black Stars refused to go down without a fight, as they managed to pull one back late in the game.
Jordan Ayew capitalised on a penalty opportunity, after a poor foul from Bright Osayi-Samuel, converting from 12 yards to give his team a glimmer of hope in the dying embers of the game.
Despite Ghana’s late surge, Nigeria’s Super Eagles held firm to secure the victory and boost Nigeria’s confidence as they prepare for future international competitions.
With Jose Peseiro’s departure, the position of head coach of the Super Eagles remains vacant, offering Finidi an opportunity to showcase his capabilities.
Having served under Peseiro for 22 months, Finidi’s experience and insights were evident in his strategic decisions against Ghana.
Reports suggest that Finidi is among the candidates shortlisted for the permanent head coach role.
