Tinubu Vows Not Shying Away On His Govt Policies

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has vowed to stick to the economic policies of his administration insisting that the controversial tax reform bills which have generated uproar amongst Nigerians is here to stay.

This is even as he disclosed that the hallmark of a good leader is the ability to do what you have to do at the time it ought to be done.

The president also disclosed his unwillingness to cut the size of cabinet members despite calls to cut down the cost of governance in the country, saying that the philosophy is about efficiency.

However, since President Tinubu transmitted the tax reform bill to the National Assembly on October 3, 2024, it has been met with stiff resistance and push back from the northern region of the country.

Addressing the matter during the presidential media chat in Lagos State, Tinubu insisted that there is no going back on the bill.

“The tax reform is here to stay. The reform is pro-poor, and it is meant to widen the tax net so we can have more people paying.

“The hallmark of a good leader is the ability to do what you have to do at the time it ought to be done.”

Moreover, with the recent cabinet reshuffle and appointment of new ministers, the President now pilot the affairs of the country with about 50 ministers – a record number since the return to democracy in 1999 and largest in Nigeria’s history.

“I’m not prepared to bring down the size of my cabinet. One, I saw the need when I put them together. You don’t give somebody an assignment that they cannot fulfil. No.

“Job description must be efficient and effective. Nigeria is a large country.

“Let’s pay attention to efficiency. Efficiency and effectiveness are the hallmarks of the philosophy behind that cabinet. I’m not ready to shrink a little bit of it,” the President insisted.
