BREAKING: INEC postpones general elections till Feb 23 and March 9
It has now been confirmed that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has postponed the General elections earlier scheduled for Saturday, February 16th, and March 2nd 2019. Each earlier scheduled election is postponed by one week.
The presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday 23 while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly will hold on March 9, 2019.
The chairman of the commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu in a signed communiqué posted on the commission twitter handle said, “Following a careful review of the implementation of its logistics and operational plan and the determination to conduct free, fair and credible elections, the commission came to the conclusion that proceeding with the elections as scheduled is no longer feasible.”
