CBN: Cardoso promises to focus on core mandate
Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, has stated that his leadership in the apex bank will focus on its core mandate.
Cardoso said this while playing host to Impact Investing Community, led by the 14th Emir of Kano and Khalifa of the Tijaniyyah Sufi Order of Nigeria and neighbouring countries, Muhammadu Sanusi II, who is also a former CBN Governor.
The CBN chief said he and his team were determined to change the narrative about the bank and make it impactful in the lives of Nigerians by curtailing inflation. He said: “At the end of our tenure, we want to look back and see that our policies have positively impacted people’s lives.”
Cardoso thanked the Impact Investing Community for the visit. He noted that the community represents an excellent future for Nigeria and has potential to transform the country’s economy by tapping into investment opportunities.
He commended the quality of leadership at Impact Investing Community, its effort to create awareness and build partnerships, and assured of the bank’s collaboration towards encouraging investments that contribute to economic growth.
In his remarks, Sanusi expressed happiness at visiting the new CBN Governor. He expressed concern over inflation, urging the new leadership to drive down the rate, which he said, has severely impacted the wealth of individuals.
He acknowledged the importance of long-term planning by CBN in achieving its goals and emphasised the need for fiscal authorities to focus on agriculture and education, especially for the girl-child.
He pledged his support, alongside Impact Investing Community, towards CBN’s achievement of its goals.
Also speaking, the Chair of Impact Investing Community, Ibukun Awosika, said they were at the bank to register their willingness to support what the apex financial institution and the Federal Government were doing about changing Nigeria’s investment climate by redirecting resources to areas where they would make the most impact.
