Court rejects bail application for Wadume, six others

Suspected kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Bala, known as Wadume, and six others under trial for kidnapping and other related offences have been denied bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice Binta Nyako, who presided on the matter, granted accelerated hearing in the cases. She also ordered that the defendants should be moved from the custody of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police to the June Correctional facility.

She also ordered that the defendants should be allowed access to their lawyers.

Meanwhile, in Oshogbo, the Osun state capital, a 50 year-old man, Aina Taiwo was on Wednesday arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court for alleged attempt to rape a school teacher.

According to the Prosecutor, Abiodun Fagboyinbo Taiwo committed the offence on 27 June 2020 at about 10:55 AM at Agunbelewo Area of Osogbo.

He said, “Taiwo attempted to commit rape and unlawfully assaulted Mark Kehinde F’ by giving her blow on her mouth to the extent she sustained an injury on her mouth and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 359 and 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. II Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.”

After pleading not guilty to the charges, the Magistrate, Opeyemi Badmus admitted the accused person to bail with the sum of N500,000 with one surety who must be a level 7 civil servant officer in the state.

He then adjourned the case to July 9 for hearing.
