United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday said his administration had blocked $50 million that would be spent on condoms in Gaza .

Trump made the claim during a bill signing ceremony for the Laken Riley Act.

“We are merely looking at parts of the big bureaucracy where there has been tremendous waste and fraud and abuse,” he told the audience.

“In that process we identified and stopped $50 million being sent to Gaza to buy condoms for Hamas, $50 million,” Trump said. “And you know what’s happened to them? They’ve used them as a method of making bombs.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt

Trump was repeating the same figure – $50 million – that White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt divulged to reporters Tuesday, during her first press briefing of the Trump 2.0 administration.

However, Leavitt has been accused of having no proof for her claim that there was ever a federal plan to spend $50 million on condoms in Gaza.

A former senior Biden official who worked on Gaza aid issues told reporters that Leavitt’s story about a $50 million condom expenditure for Gaza was “imaginary.” The former official said: “It’s a lie, they are making s*** up.”
