How Nigeria recorded lowest daily Covid-19 infection since December
Last Sunday, Nigeria recorded 520 new cases of Covid-19 in 19 states, making it the lowest in two months.
Reports in 19 states on Sunday indicated a significant decrease from the 1,143 reported in the previous 24 hours.
The low recorded cases were due to non-inclusion of data from Lagos State. The state has been the epicenter of the pandemic in the country since the first case was recorded in 2020.
The various states in the country are in charge of coronavirus management and response, and they are expected to turn up daily reports to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) that then publish the report.
The published reports serve as the yardstick Nigeria’s COVID-19 outbreak is measured.
Nigeria currently as at 15 February has 146,928 recorded cases with 22,158 active cases and 1,761 deaths. In all, 123,009 have been discharged.
Meanwhile the NCDC has announced the commencement of ‘Campaign 6232’. This is an activity to raise public awareness for the toll-free number ‘6232’ recently introduced by the Agency, for public enquiries through its 24-7 Connect Centre.
With support from the National Communication Commission, a shortcode 6232 was introduced.
The campaign will use different means of communication to raise awareness of Nigerians on how to reach NCDC, with questions relating to infectious disease prevention, detection and control.
Following an increasing need for Nigerians to communicate with the agency as part of the COVID-19 response, NCDC expanded its connect centre capacity in 2020.
