Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said on Sunday he would have taken it as a joke if anyone had told him in 2013 that he would be Vice President of Nigeria in 2015.

The Vice President who said he never thought he would go around the country campaigning considering the rigours it takes to campaign in the country said “even to campaign as a Councilor is not a child’s play.”

He said this at a special thanksgiving service on Sunday at the State House Conference Center in Abuja.

Professor Osinbajo who was joined by former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon and other top government officials for the thanksgiving service reflected on the campaign for the 2019 presidential elections.

Reflecting on the helicopter crash on February 2, 2019 in Kogi state while on a campaign visit to the state, Prof. Osinbajo said the miracle saved some Nigerians and Nigeria from lots of trouble, explaining that negative happening as a result of the crash would have generated various conspiracy theories that he said “would have gotten some people in trouble.”

He appreciated the support of Nigerians for the Buhari-led government.

While reading the only bible reading at the special thanksgiving service, the Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo SAN, said there is need to thank God for the manner at which the opposition has taken for redress in court instead of violence.

“The opposition took the civil path to take the election dispute to court instead of instigating violence,” he said.

While delivering his sermon at the event, the Assistant General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Charge of the Northern Region, Pastor Ezekiel Odeyemi commended the Vice President for not taking God for granted by taking time to observe the thanksgiving.

He also stated that thanksgiving is a deliverance from trouble and intervention from the Throne of Grace.

The service was also attended by the President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Supo Ayokunle, members of the diplomatic corps, and public officials.
