‘I’m not interested in doing Nigeria’s PR’ – Kemi Badenoch tells VP Shettima
The leader of the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, has reiterated her statement on the nature of Nigeria nation, emphasizing that she is not interested in doing Nigeria’s PR., while insisting she will not sugarcoat it.
Badenoch said this in response to the Nigeria’s Vice-President Kashim Shettima criticism of her for describing the country as a “socialist nation brimming with thieving politicians and insecurity.”
Shettima, who spoke on Monday at the 10th Annual Migration Dialogue at the State House in Abuja, accused Kemi of denigrating Nigeria.
The Vice President went on to ask Badenoch to remove the “Kemi” from her name if she was not proud of her nation of origin.
However, in a statement issued through her spokesperson, Badenoch said she is not interested in enhancing Nigeria’s global image, asserting that her focus is on addressing issues with candour and realism.
“Kemi is not interested in doing Nigeria’s PR; she is the leader of the opposition in the UK.
“She tells the truth. She tells it like it is. She’s not going to couch her words, and she stands by what she says,” the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has lambasted the United Kingdom, UK, Conservative Party leader in a statement he post on his X handle on Thursday.
He said: “No you are not & neither do we need or want you to. You are however doing PR for the House Ni*gers Association & the racist, fascist scum that constitutes the far right wing of your adopted country. Do us a favour by shutting your foul mouth, dropping ‘Kemi’ as your name & changing it to ‘Aunty Jemimah’ instead.”
Badenoch, born Olukemi Adegoke, has often spoken about her Nigerian heritage but has also been critical of the country’s leadership and systemic issues.
She adopted the surname Badenoch after marrying her Scottish husband, Hamish Badenoch, a banker.
