Kwara state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has forwarded an executive bill to Kwara State House of Assembly to repeal the law granting payment of monthly pension to former governors and deputy governors.

AbdulRazaq had earlier indicated his intention to scrap payment of pension to former governors of the state and their deputies.

The State Assembly Speaker, Yakubu Danladi, on Wednesday, read the governor’s message to the lawmakers as he presented the bill to them during their plenary.

The speaker said the bill was targeted at achieving the cardinal objective of the state government on prudent management of the state’s scarce resources.

The bill was unanimously accepted by the lawmakers at the plenary and subsequently referred to the House Committee on Rules and Business after it has passed the first reading.

Political watchers have observed that the bill is most likely to hit hard Senator Bukola Saraki and further reduce his political relevance in the state.
