Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash Claims 9 Lives as Bus Collides with Truck

About nine individuals tragically lost their lives and three others were injured in a devastating crash that occurred in the vicinity of Ayetoro on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Monday.

According to reports, the crash, which occurred around 5:30 am, involved a Toyota bus with plate number UYY165ZY and a truck with registration number DKA244XC, with the Toyota bus driver losing control of the vehicle and colliding with the stationary truck.

The Spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, disclosed this information in a statement sent to reporters on Monday.

Okpe explained, “The fatal crash occurred in the early hours this morning about 0530HRS on Lagos-Ibadan expressway around the Ayetoro area.

“A total of 13 people were involved which comprised of 10 male adults and 03 female adults and 09 were recorded killed (06 male and 03 female) while 03 were injured.

“The suspected causes of the fatal crash were excessive speed and fatigue which led to loss of control and the driver rammed into a station truck.

“The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the deceased were deposited at Idera morgue Sagamu.

The Sector Commander, deeply saddened by the accident, lamented the reckless behavior of some drivers, calling attention to their disregard for the stipulated speed limits and the 15-minute rest period after a 4-hour journey.

He expressed his sympathies to the families of the crash victims; he encouraged them to contact the Mowe unit Command for more information and assistance regarding the tragic incident.
