Manchester United reclaims goalkeeper Heaton
Tom Heaton has reunited with his childhood club, Manchester United, after 11 years.
The Red Devil’s confirmed the goalkeeper’s signing after his contract at Aston Villa expired.
The 35-year-old came through the ranks at United but departed, after spells on loan at six different clubs, on a permanent basis 11 years ago.
Heaton has since impressed for the likes of Cardiff City and Burnley and has made three senior appearances for England.
The experienced goalkeeper now returns to his boyhood club and will compete with the likes of David de Gea and Dean Henderson for first team opportunities.
‘For me to have the opportunity to come back after spending 13 great years here as a kid, it’s an incredible feeling and I’m really, really excited to get started,’ said Heaton, who has penned a two-year deal.
Manchester United has already confirmed a deal is in place for them to sign Jadon Sancho.
‘I’m just seeing it as a fantastic opportunity as I still feel I’ve got an awful lot to give and I’ve got the bit between my teeth.
‘I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running. I feel in great shape and I’m looking forward to coming in to compete with the other goalkeepers.’
It has been a busy start to the window for United, given they have already confirmed an agreement with Borussia Dortmund over the transfer of Jadon Sancho.
The England international will undergo a medical after Euro 2020 and will join up with his new teammates in time for the start of the new Premier League season next month.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now turning his attention towards signing a new centre-half and deal with Real Madrid for their France international Raphael Varane is making encouraging progress.
