Nigerian Senate Honors Late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in Valedictory Session

The Nigerian Senate paid homage to late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah on Tuesday during a special plenary session dedicated to honoring his memory. Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the National Assembly, was remembered fondly by his colleagues for his contributions to the Senate and his country.

The casket bearing the remains of the late senator was placed at the foyer of the White House wing, directly in front of the Senate Chamber, as the day’s agenda for the Senate was singularly focused on the ‘Valedictory Session.

As a somber reminder of Senator Ubah’s presence, his seat in the chamber was adorned with flowers and draped in a cloth bearing the colors of the Nigerian flag.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele in a heartwarming of respect donned traditional Isi-Enyi and Isi-Agwu outfits respectively, complete with matching red caps and dark sunglasses.

The session was also open to dignitaries and invited guests, allowing a broader audience to pay their respects and join in mourning the Senator’s passing.

Among the distinguished guests who attended the session to honor Senator Ubah were Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Governor of Anambra State, Chris Ngige, and former Senator of Anambra Central, Uche Ekwunife.

The spouses of key Senate officials were also in attendance, including Ekaette Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Hajiya Jibrin Barau, wife of Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau; and Oluyemisi Bamidele, wife of Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, along with a delegation of House leaders, had earlier marched around the casket of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in a poignant display of respect and mourning.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who served as the representative for Anambra South Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate, passed away on July 27, 2024 in London. He was 52 years old.
