Women’s basketball coach Rena Wakama will lead the Nigerian National Women’s Team as the head coach at the Paris Olympics starting on Monday.
The games are scheduled to start for the national team with pool play beginning on July 29 against Australia. The second game is against France while the third game comes against Canada. All of the team’s three games during pool play are in Lille, Pierre – Mauroy Stadium.
The D’Tigress enter the Olympics ranked No. 12 in the FIBA Power Rankings. They are the No. 1 ranked women’s team on the African continent and this is the second straight Olympic appearance that the Nigerian women’s team will make.
Wakama was hired as the Nigeria Women’s National Basketball Head Coach in June 2023 and promptly became the first female coach to ever win the Women’s AfroBasketball title in August of 2023.
