Three months after the governorship election in Ondo state, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is yet to get over its loss with various stakeholders within the party trading blame over the poor run of the party in the election.

According to the Publicity Secretary of the Ondo State chapter of the party, Kennedy Peretei, the party would probe the role played by Senator Nicolas Tofowomo, during October 10 governorship election.

But the Ondo State senator had blamed disunity among PDP members for the defeat suffered by the party’s candidate, Eyitayo Jegede SAN.

Peretei said, “You and l know that the governorship elections result of October 2020 is still being challenged by Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, at the Election Petitions Tribunal. Talking about loss at the polls is accepting the outcome of the declaration by INEC.

“Senator Tofowomo claimed to work for PDP at that election but this story of his suggests the contrary. However, as a party, we have not done a postmortem of that election for obvious reasons.

“At the appropriate time, we shall revisit the election and the roles played by individuals will come to the fore. But for now, our focus is the tribunal; every other matter is a mere distraction.”

Tofowomo, who represents Ondo South Senatorial District in the Senate, had at a media briefing in Akure identified internal divisions within the party for the crushing defeat it suffered.

Specifically, he said, “After Jegede won the primary, that same night, I called him and I congratulated him. I told him he had already won; he should forget the past and let us work together. I told him, you have two senators, embrace us and let us move round and meet all the 15 governors, so that we can raise money. He said he will get back to me.

“He did not get in touch with me until after a month. I called and told him that he was not working as if he wanted to win the election.”

The lawmaker however expressed confidence that the party will soon resolve its internal conflicts.
