Tinubu Advocates for Global Collaboration at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday pledged his country’s commitment to global collaboration during his address in the United Arab Emirates, vowing that Nigeria is poised to contribute to building a world that is not only robust and equitable, but also environmentally and socially sustainable for all its inhabitants.

Addressing the attendees of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week on the second day of the conference, the President  tackled the topic “From Climate Imperatives into Economic Prosperity: Bridging Africa with the Global Energy Future,” where he expounded upon Nigeria’s potential to contribute to sustainable global development and bridge the energy gap between Africa and the rest of the world.

President Tinubu emphasized that sustainability cannot be achieved in isolation, advocating for international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and mutual assistance in order to successfully navigate the challenges of the global economy and climate change.

In his words “The fight against climate change is not merely an environmental necessity but a global economic opportunity to reshape the trajectory of our continent and the global energy landscape.

“As leaders, stakeholders and citizens of our planet, we stand at a critical juncture in human history. To succeed, we must innovate, collaborate and act decisively as one global community.”

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to curbing carbon emissions, assuring the audience that the Nigerian government had formulated comprehensive action plans that align with international expectations, while also taking into account the nation’s unique socioeconomic and political circumstances.

“We have embraced a vision of sustainability that aligns with global aspirations while addressing local realities. Our efforts are anchored on three pillars: Energy Transition, Climate Resilience, and Sustainable Development. My administration recognizes the importance of reducing carbon emissions and a just transition to clean and renewable energy, promoting environmental sustainability and economic growth.

President Tinubu also underlined the fact that Nigeria is taking concrete steps towards climate-smart agricultural practices, which not only bolster food security but also minimize adverse environmental effects.

Echoing his commitment to sustainability, He emphasized the Nigerian government’s cooperative efforts with local communities to find practical solutions to the country’s environmental issues, such as deforestation, desertification, coastal erosion, flooding, and pollution, aiming to reduce their detrimental effects on the environment and the livelihoods of affected communities.

The President implored partner countries to unite in their efforts to mobilize resources and address environmental issues, emphasizing the pivotal role of innovation and technology in achieving sustainable and lasting solutions to these pressing concerns.
