Trump Gives Ultimatum to Global Businesses to Bolster U.S. Manufacturing
United States President Donald Trump has issued warning to business executives on Thursday, declaring that companies must manufacture their products in the United States or face the imposition of substantial tariffs.
Trump said this during his first major address to world leaders since his reelection to the White House, remotely at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Just days after assuming office as the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump has made it clear that he intends to act swiftly on his campaign promises to protect American jobs, indicating that substantial tariffs against major trading partners like Canada, Mexico, and China could be implemented as early as February 1st.
Since his return to office, President Trump has wasted no time in pushing forward his policy agenda, signing several executive orders within days of taking office that have had significant ramifications, including the US withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord and the World Health Organization.
He stated “Come make your product in America and we will give you among the lowest taxes of any nation on earth.
“But if you don’t make your product in America, which is your prerogative, then very simply you will have to pay a tariff.”
In his address, Trump also made the striking claim that if oil prices were significantly reduced, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine could be brought to an immediate halt.
“I am also going to ask Saudi Arabia and OPEC to bring down the cost of oil,” referring to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.
I’m his words, “If the price came down, the Russia-Ukraine war would end immediately.
“Right now, the price is high enough that that war will continue.”
