Two members of staff of the United States Consulate in Nigeria, who were kidnapped during the attack on their convoy at Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra States, have been rescued by joint security operatives.
The rescued victims were kidnapped on Tuesday, by gunmen, who attacked the convoy of the United States Embassy in Nigeria, while on a humanitarian mission.
While two staff and two police officers were reported killed in the incident, two other staff and 3 policemen were abducted.
Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, however, told newsmen on Friday, that the two abducted staff of the embassy have been rescued unhurt by the joint security forces in the early hours of Friday.
“In the early hours of Friday, May 19, 2023, the joint security forces rescued unhurt the two remaining victims abducted during the attack on a US convoy attack along Atani/Osamela road in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
“Operations are still ongoing and further details shall be communicated, please,” he said.
