In a recent announcement, the U.S. Mission to Nigeria stated that the U.S. government intends to launch an inquiry into the use of aid funds previously allocated to Nigeria and other countries.

It condemns terrorists’ violence and blatant disregard for human life.

In January 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a 90-day suspension of all foreign aid due to his concerns about instability abroad and its perceived contradiction with American interests, which sparked widespread international reaction.

This decision comes amid increasing pressure to conduct a detailed examination of how U.S. Agency for International Development health funds have been allocated and utilized.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Mission to Nigeria confirmed via a post on their verified X (formerly Twitter) account that there are ongoing efforts to trace the utilization of past assistance provided to Nigeria by the U.S. government.

“Comprehensive monitoring and evaluation systems are in place to help verify that U.S. assistance reaches intended recipients,” the mission stated

United States Mission also strongly condemned the ongoing violence and loss of life caused by Boko Haram in Nigeria.

“The United States condemns the violence and blatant disregard for human life perpetrated by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in Nigeria and the region,” it affirmed

The U.S. government further emphasized that Boko Haram was officially designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the U.S. Secretary of State on November 14, 2013.

This designation was implemented in order to impede the organization’s ability to conduct fundraising activities, freeze its assets, and hinder the travel of its members to the United States, as well as provide the legal basis for prosecution of Boko Haram members.
