White House expects a peaceful transition, says Mark Meadows
Mark Meadows, the White House Chief of Staff said his utmost expectation is a peaceful transition of power after the election, despite the fact that president Trump again declines to commit to the relinquishing the presidency if he gets defeated in November.
Meadows, speaking with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer said “If it’s free and fair, we’ll accept the will of the American people,” he also added that “we believe that will be the re-election of Donald Trump.” After a lot of pressure from Bitzer Meadow said as long as it is according to the constitution, Donald trump would be in support of the peaceful transition.
He said “As long as we’re upholding the Constitution… I fully expect that we’ll have a peaceful transition of power that the President not only will support but Americans across the country will support,”
On Wednesday, at a news conference Trump declines to accept a peaceful transition if he loses to his opponent Joe Biden.
Trump said “Well, we’re going to have to see what happens,” when he was asked whether he was committed to the peaceful transition which was one of the cornerstone of Americans democracy. “You know that I’ve been complaining very strongly about the ballots, and the ballots are a disaster.”
And Trump has joked — he says —about staying in office well past the constitutionally bound two terms.
Echoing his sentiments from 2016, Trump has refused to say whether he would accept the election results or not.
