The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken disciplinary action against former Minister of Interior and ex-Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, expelling him from the party over accusations of engaging in behavior deemed harmful to the party’s interests.

Rauf Aregbesola, a prominent political figure in Osun State who held the governorship for two terms, emerged as the leader of a faction within the APC known as The Osun Progressives, which later became known as the Omoluabi Caucus.

A letter from the APC leadership seen by newsmen on Wednesday officially confirmed Aregbesola’s expulsion.

In an official letter sent to Aregbesola, titled “Allegations of Anti-Party Activities – Conveyance of State Exco Decision to You,” the APC leveled accusations against him for violating Article 21 of the party’s constitution, which outlines the disciplinary measures that can be taken against members.

The letter read in part, “At the end of the investigation, the State Executive Committee (SEC) considered the report of the Disciplinary Committee. Having carefully reviewed the findings and recommendations, the SEC resolved to approve your immediate expulsion from the APC.

“The decision was predicated on clear evidence of your actions, which undermined the unity and integrity of the party. As a result, you are no longer a member of the APC and must refrain from holding yourself out as one or acting on behalf of the party in any capacity.”

Rauf Aregbesola’s expulsion from the APC came on the heels of a gathering of his Omoluabi Caucus, in which the former minister himself presided over discussions regarding the group’s disenchantment with the APC’s declining influence in Osun State.
