The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has concluded plan to invite minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to face a disciplinary committee over alleged anti-party activities.
deputy national publicity secretary of the PDP, Ibrahim Abdullahi, spoke on Monday when he featured on Sunrise Daily, on Channels Television.
In August, the leadership of the PDP inaugurated a disciplinary committee to address the misconduct and indiscipline in the party and ensure accountability, fairness, and upholding ethics and values.
The committee is chaired by Tom Ikimi, ex-minister of foreign affairs.
Abdullahi said Wike is one of the members of the party that will be invited by the disciplinary committee.
“Three weeks ago, we put up two committees in place, that of reconciliation and disciplinary, and Nyesom Wike is one of the persons to face the disciplinary committee, which is headed by elder statesman chief Tom Ikimi,” he said.
“The disciplinary committee will look into issues of anti-party activities. We have been receiving petitions regarding anti-party activities or sabotaging the party throughout the primary, leading to where we are now.
“These petitions against Wike and other party members have been aggregated and sent to the committee.”
Abdullahi also reacted to a recent comment by Wike on the political crisis in Rivers state.
While speaking at the PDP state congress in Rivers on Saturday, Wike warned governors in the party against interfering in the affairs of the opposition party in Rivers state.
Wike and Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, have been locked in a political tussle over the control of the political structure in the state since 2023.
The rift between both politicians has polarised the Rivers house of assembly with each camp electing a speaker loyal to the governor and his estranged political godfather, Wike.
Abdullahi described Wike’s remark as “disappointing”, saying he ought to have “managed his words carefully”.
“That was a very disappointing remark. We weren’t expecting him to say that, and to be honest with you, we are not with him on that,” he said.
The PDP has been battling an internal crisis since 2022 before the presidential election.
Despite being a member of the PDP, Wike took up an appointment as minister in the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.
The call by some stakeholders for the suspension of Wike over alleged anti-party activities has further divided the party.
