Gunmen Ambush Kebbi Customs Post, Kill One Officer, Abduct Another

Tragedy struck at Koko base in Kebbi State, as gunmen attacked a team of Customs officers, resulting in the death of one and the abduction of another.

The Kebbi State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service confirmed the incident in a statement released by the Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Salisu. The statement revealed that a group of gunmen had ambushed the anti-smuggling squad in their Koko base, resulting in the loss of Dabo Umar’s life and the kidnapping of Babagana Kabiru. The assault caused significant damage to the base’s facilities.

Despite the tragic circumstances, the Kebbi State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service ensured that the remains of Umar were recovered and transported with the utmost respect to Kaduna, where Islamic burial rites were performed.

In a statement of consolation to the family of Dabo Umar, the Comptroller of the Kebbi State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Earnest Iheanacho, assured the public that a manhunt was underway to secure the safe return of Babagana Kabiru. The Comptroller further vowed that every effort would be made to bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice.

He stated, “We will not be deterred or forced by fear to abandon the patrol of the borders. Our resolve to stem smuggle at all costs is unwavering despite threats by disgruntled elements.”

While operations to recover Babagana Kabiru continue, the Command has pledged to keep the public informed on any developments. In a show of resilience, the Command urged its officers at the borders to remain steadfast in their duties and maintain a high level of professionalism, especially in light of this tragic event. Additionally, they stressed the importance of utilizing all available safety measures and protocols during future operations to minimize the risk of similar incidents.
