Ten people were reportedly killed on Wednesday in renewed aggression between Ebira and Bassa-Komu ethnic groups in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State.

According to report, scores of others were said to have sustained injuries, following the return of the displaced Ebira indigenes in a crisis which started last April.

This development was confirmed yesterday by the Police spokesman, William Aya who is a deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), in Lokoja.

The spokesman guaranteed residents that the situation was under control.

Meanwhile the command’s spokesman said only two persons died in the renewed clashes, which started months ago.

Aya made it known that a team of mobile policemen, conventional policemen and soldiers were on the ground to forestall further clashes.

He said “Two people were killed: one yesterday (Wednesday) and the second today (yesterday). Calm has returned to the affected areas. The police commissioner in-charge of operation, mobile police, conventional police, area commanders and the Army are there to restore law and order as soon as possible.”
