President Bola Tinubu has rejigged his cabinet amidst Nigerians groaning under economic hardship.
Tinubu on Wednesday implemented eight actions which include sacking five ministers, reassigning ten others to new ministerial portfolios, appointing seven new ministers for Senate confirmation, renaming of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development to the Ministry of Regional Development to oversee the Regional Development Commissions, scrapping to the Ministry of Sports Development and transferring its functions to the National Sports Commission, among others.
The sacked ministers include:
• Barr. Uju-Ken Ohanenye- Minister of Women Affairs
• Lola Ade-John – Minister of Tourism
• Prof Tahir Mamman SAN OON – Minister of Education
• Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo – Minister of State Housinf and Urban Development
• Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim – Minister of Youth Development
The ministers that were reassigned are:
• Hon Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu from Minister of State for Education to become Minister of State Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction
• Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa from Minister State for Health to now be Minister of Education
• Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo from Minister of State, Water Resources and Sanitation to become Minister of State Works
• Hon. Abubakar Momoh from Minister of Niger Delta Development to become Minister of Regional Development
• Uba Maigari Ahmadu from Minister of State Steel Development to now function as Minister of State Regional Development
• Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite from Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment to become Minister of State Finance
• Sen. John Enoh who was Minister of Sports Development now become Minister of State Trade and Investment [Industry]
• Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim who was functioning as Minister of State, Police Affairs to now become Minister of Women Affairs
• Ayodele Olawande from Minister of State for Youth Development to now become Minister for Youth Development
• Dr. Salako Iziaq Adekunle Adeboye formerly Minister of State, Environment now become Minister of State, Health
The newly appointed ministers include:
• Dr Nentawe Yilwatda – Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction
• Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi – Minister of Labour & Employment
• Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu – Minister of State Foreign Affairs
• Dr Jumoke Oduwole – Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment (Trade and Investment)
• Idi Mukhtar Maiha – Ministry of Livestock Development
• Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata – Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development
• Suwaiba Said Ahmad PhD – Minister of State Education
However, federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, Dele Alake, his Solid Minerals counterpart are among those who were not affected in the cabinet reshuffle of President. Others are Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo who retained their portfolios.
The President thanked the outgoing members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for their service to the nation while wishing them the best in their future endeavours.
He charged the newly appointed ministers as well as their reassigned colleagues to see their appointment as a call to serve the nation, stressing that all appointees must understand the administration’s eagerness and determination to set Nigeria on the path to irreversible growth and invest the best of their abilities into the actualisation of the government’s priorities.
