In a significant anti-fraud operation, Enugu Zone operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) successfully apprehended 37 individuals believed to be engaged in internet fraud in the city of Awka, the capital of Anambra State.
The EFCC disclosed in a press release issued on Wednesday that the arrest of the 37 suspects was facilitated by reliable intelligence reports indicating their involvement in illicit online activities.
The statement read in part, “The all-male suspects were arrested in a sting operation at Commissioners’ Quarters, Dr. J. O. Ukwutinife Close, Ifite, Awka, Anambra State, following credible intelligence linking them to fraudulent internet activities.”
In addition to the arrests, the EFCC revealed that six luxury cars and various electronic devices, including laptops and mobile phones, believed to have been used by the suspects in their alleged fraudulent activities, were also confiscated.
The anti-graft agency reiterated its dedication to combating cybercrime, stressing that no effort would be spared in its mission to eradicate such criminal activities and maintain the integrity of society.
