The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared his readiness to confront former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over recent comments urging Nigerians to revolt against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Amaechi, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday night, had called on citizens to rise against the government. Reacting on Friday, Wike, who previously served as Governor of Rivers State, dismissed Amaechi’s call as insincere and challenged him to personally lead any such revolt—along with his children—starting in Rivers State.

Speaking during the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated Aguma Palace–Radio Nigeria–New Market Road in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, Wike recalled his political battles with Amaechi. He boasted of defeating the former governor’s political structure in past elections, both in 2015 and 2019.

“I defeated a powerful sitting governor in 2015 who tried to impose a successor,” Wike said. “In 2019, a super minister who got us heavily indebted couldn’t deliver 20 percent of the vote despite being the campaign DG for the President. I beat him again.”

Wike mocked Amaechi’s call for revolt, insisting that it should not be led from afar while the instigator’s children remain overseas. “Come to Rivers with your children and lead the protest yourself. Then we’ll know you mean it,” Wike dared.

The project commissioning was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu. Wike’s remarks further underline the intensifying political rivalry in Rivers State.
