Nigeria and Israel have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling global security threats, stressing that terrorism is a challenge requiring the support and cooperation of the entire international community.
The position was made during a high-level Political Dialogue between both nations, led by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Israel’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sharren Miriam Haskel-Harpaz.
According to a joint communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, both sides acknowledged the growing complexity of global security challenges and pledged to deepen collaboration in counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, and the tracking of terrorism financing. They also agreed to expand cooperation in security training for personnel.
The talks covered critical multilateral issues on security and counter-terrorism, alongside important bilateral political and economic matters. The two countries endorsed the ideas and initiatives exchanged during the deliberations and emphasized the need for stronger collaboration at the multilateral level, particularly in showing solidarity on issues of strategic interest to both nations.
Beyond security, the meeting identified several other areas of mutual interest, including technology and innovation for border management, capacity building, culture, tourism, agriculture, consular and immigration matters.
Both countries also agreed to promote exchange programmes and study tours as part of a broader plan to strengthen people-to-people connections and deepen mutual understanding.
The communiqué concluded with a joint pledge to build a more robust bilateral relationship and to sustain constant dialogue in the future.
