It was the timely arrival of some soldiers that saved a fleeing kidnapper from death as some residents unleashed jungle justice on him after he was captured when his gang was going away with their victim.
The Nigerian Army announced the development in a statement on Wednesday, as it said the kidnapper, Lalau Adamu, a member of a gang of abductors, was apprehended while other members of the gang escaped, abandoning their victim in the process.
According to the army, troops of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke rescued the victim after his abduction in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State on Wednesday.
It was gathered that the soldiers received a distress call indicating that the victim was kidnapped by the hoodlums while sleeping outside his compound.
After receiving the call, the soldiers were said to have mobilised and launched a hot pursuit of the kidnappers. On realising that the troops were closing in, they abandoned the victim and fled into nearby bushes.
The residents, including hunters, vigilante members and others, were said to have pursued the kidnappers inside the bush later in the day and after some hours in the bush, the apprehended Lalau Adamu.
They were in the process of giving him jungle justice when the soldiers were said to have arrived the scene and saved him from being killed. He however sustained some injuries from the jungle justice meted on him.
He was said to be receiving treatment from the injuries he sustained and he will be interrogated after leaving the hospital so that he will provide information that will lead to the arrest of other members of the kidnapping gang.
