Residents of Ikoyi Ile in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State are currently living in palpable fear following two letters purportedly written by bandits which indicated that they will be attacked on January 20.
The bandits had, last week, stormed an outpost used by Forest Rangers in Okaka community in the same local government, where they killed about five rangers and set the outpost ablaze.
The residents woke up on Saturday to see two handwritten notes informing them of an attack on the town on January 20.
The notes, dropped in front and at the back of a building and written in Yoruba and English, bore no name or addresses.
The one written in Yoruba read: “Lati Odo Bandit, A o wa ni January 20th, 2026. E duro de wa ati pe ki e mu ra fun wa le. A wa lati wa fun yin ni ibanuje ni orilede yin. Ni Ikoyi-Ile Ile Oyo State. E mu ra le fun wa.”
The second note read: “Bandit information. See, now, Three days we work for you. We said you in Ikoyi-Ile are the government that sent us. Wait for us”.

The Public Relations Officer of Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the letters were seen by the command, saying men of the command had been drafted to the community to provide adequate security.
