The Confederation of African Football (CAF), on Monday, January 19, condemned the behaviour of some players and officials during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal in Rabat on Sunday night.

During the encounter, Senegalese players and officials walked out on the field when a penalty was awarded to Morocco. This was after a goal by Senegal was disallowed by the referee.

The Senegalese later returned to the field after some persuasion. The Moroccans eventually lost the penalty while the Senegalese later scored the only goal of the match and won the championship.

However, apparently angry with the conduct of the players and officials during the match, CAF said appropriate sanctions would be meted out to those involved.

The continent’s football governing body said: “CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour which occurs during matches, especially those targeting the refereeing team or match organizers.

“CAF is reviewing all footage and will refer the matter to competent bodies for appropriate action to be taken against those found guilty.”
