An actress from the Northern part of the country has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for using naira notes to clean mucus in her nose.
The actress, Samha Inuha, a member of the Kannywood section of the movie industry in Nigeria, was arrested on Tuesday, February 3, by the Kano Zonal Command of the agency.
Her arrest followed a video that went viral where she was seen using naira notes to clean mucus from her nose.
This action is in violation of Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act of 2007 which criminalises spraying, dancing on, writing on, stapling, tearing, or soiling naira notes, and punishable by at least six months imprisonment, a ₦50,000 fine, or both.
It was gathered that the operatives of the commission, after watching the video, swung into action, traced her and effected her arrest on Tuesday afternoon.
She is currently being held at the commission’s facility in Kano and she is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
