More facts have emerged over the removal of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, by President Bola Tinubu.
A highly competent source close to the seat of power told Impact Nigeria News Online on Tuesday afternoon that Egbetokun was removed on what he described as “health reason.”
Egbetokun was said to have been battling with an ailment for some time and has not been carrying out his duties regularly in the last few weeks. He was said to have told the president that he could no longer carry out the strenuous assignments attached to his position.
The president was said to have agreed to his request and wished him well in his recovery efforts.
The source added that when the president discussed with Egbetokun on who was to take over from him in acting capacity, various names of Deputy Inspectors General and Assistant Inspector Generals came up and at the end, the name of Tunji Disu, an Assistant Inspector Generals in charge of Force Criminal Intelligence Department, was picked.
Disu therefore is expected to be appointed as the Acting Inspector General of Police while all the DIGs and AIGs who are Disu’s seniors will automatically retire from the Nigeria Police Force.
Some of his mates in the rank of AIG and others who are Commissioners of Police will eventually fill the six vacant DIG positions when the current occupants retire.
