Troops of the 312 Artillery Regiment under the 1 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 1 Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested a suspected fake Major General in Kaduna.

The Army disclosed the arrest in an official report made available to journalists at the Army headquarters in Abuja on Friday, June 12.

The report disclosed that the man was arrested while allegedly impersonating retired Major General A.T. Ibrahim.

According to the report, the arrest was made during a proactive operation aimed at protecting the integrity of the Armed Forces and safeguarding members of the public from fraudulent activities.

The report stated that the fake Major General, a civilian, was apprehended at about 9:50 am on June 11, 2026, by troops deployed at Strike Force Base Sabo.

The Army said it had commenced preliminary investigations to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation and added that the suspect would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further probe and prosecution.

“Preliminary investigations are currently underway, after which the suspect will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution,” the report stated.

The Nigerian Army urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious individuals claiming military status without proper identification.

The military noted that impersonation of Armed Forces personnel undermines public trust and poses security risks, stressing that decisive measures would continue to be taken against offenders.

According to the Army, it remains committed to combating all forms of criminality, including impersonation and other acts capable of tarnishing the image and reputation of the Armed Forces.

The Army further assured citizens that it would continue to take firm action against individuals exploiting the name and status of military personnel for unlawful purposes.
