Four persons have been confirmed dead while two others are currently battling for their lives after some suspected cultists opened fire at a bamboo bar in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The state police command, which announced the incident in a statement on Monday, June 15, said it occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Sunday in the Post Office area of Ilorin when people were relaxing at the bar.

According to the command, about five men suspected to be cultists stormed the shanty bamboo bar along the Railway area of Post Office and opened fire on individuals gathered at the location before fleeing the scene.

Following the distress call regarding the incident, police operatives promptly responded and rushed the victims to the Police Clinic where four of them were confirmed dead by medical personnel, while two others are currently battling with their lives.

Preliminary findings by the command indicated that the incident was cult-related while comprehensive investigations led to the arrest of two suspected members of a notorious and deadly cult group linked to the attack.

“The suspects are currently in custody and are providing useful information to assist ongoing investigations and facilitate the identification and apprehension of other members of the criminal gang,” the command added.

It also stated that tactical, intelligence, and covert assets have been fully mobilised to track down every individual connected to the crime, with a commitment that all suspects will be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.
