Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a woman they abducted at a community in Kaduna State following the delay in payment of N10 million ransom by family members.
The bandits abducted Shafa’atu Ibrahim, said to be the younger sister of Comrade Murtala Ibrahim Xray, a popular labour chieftain, in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, last month.
They were said to have initially demanded the sum of ₦10 million as ransom and while the family were busy negotiating the amount demanded, the bandits called on Thursday afternoon that they had killed her.
As if that was not enough, the bandits called the family members after her death, demanding ₦2 million before releasing her body to them for burial.
A source close to the community told Impact Nigeria News Online on Friday, June 26, that the family had informed security agencies about the sad incident while they are also begging the bandits for the release of the woman.
As of now, according to the source, there are indications that the bandits might reduce the amount demanded for the release of the corpse while the security agencies are also making frantic efforts to locate the hideout of the marauders.
In another sad development, bandits on Thursday afternoon raided Jargaba community in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing residents, including three vigilantes who engaged them.
They also abducted an unspecified number of persons and rustled a large number of livestock during the invasion.
The latest developments add to the growing insecurity affecting rural communities in the Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, where bandits and terrorists unleash mayhem, killing some people and abducting others for ransom.
