The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media claiming that the anti-graft agency is secretly recruiting new personnel.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Monday, July 20, 2026, the commission described the viral claim as fake news and urged Nigerians to disregard it.
To reinforce its position, the EFCC accompanied the statement with a graphic boldly labelled “FAKE NEWS,” warning members of the public not to fall victim to the misleading information.
The false post, which gained traction across several social media platforms, claimed: “Disturb your godfather ooo. EFCC is secretly recruiting. They are probably reporting for training next month,” while also encouraging users to send anonymous messages.
According to the commission, the claim is entirely fabricated and does not represent its recruitment process or official communication.
By publicly debunking the report, the EFCC cautioned Nigerians against relying on unverified information, especially recruitment-related claims circulated through unofficial channels.
The commission noted that the clarification became necessary in view of the growing number of online scams in which fraudsters exploit the EFCC’s name to deceive job seekers with fake recruitment advertisements and extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.
The agency reiterated that it does not conduct recruitment exercises secretly and does not appoint agents or intermediaries to recruit personnel on its behalf.
It stressed that whenever vacancies exist, recruitment exercises are publicly announced through its verified communication platforms and other recognised media channels.
The EFCC therefore advised Nigerians, particularly job seekers, to verify any information relating to its activities through its official platforms before responding to recruitment advertisements or making any payments.
The anti-corruption agency also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious recruitment messages or fraudulent schemes using the commission’s name, warning that scammers often prey on desperate job seekers with false promises of employment.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency in its operations and encouraged Nigerians to rely only on official EFCC announcements for accurate information regarding recruitment and other activities.
