It was the end of the road for four members of the dreaded cult group, Aiye Confraternity, as they have been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command after they were said to have carried out killings in Mushin and other parts of the state.
They were arrested by operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) while one locally-made Beretta pistol and 9mm ammunition were recovered from them at their hideout in Mushin.
Their arrest followed credible intelligence on the activities of cult groups in Mushin, as the operatives swung into action after receiving the intelligence.
They first arrested one of the cultists, Irawo Moshod and during his interrogation, he admitted to being a former leader of the cult group and gave useful information regarding the activities of the group, including their involvement in several killings within Mushin and other parts of the state.
Acting on information provided by him, operatives proceeded to Idi-Oro area of Mushin where the pistol and live ammunition were recovered.
Three other members of the group, namely Abayomi James, Farouq Bankole and Steven Sunday were subsequently arrested at Aganran by Ojuwoye area of Mushin.
During their interrogation, they were said to have also admitted to being members of the Aiye Confraternity and their involvement in killins, while they disclosed that the recovered firearm was collected from one Rilwan, identified as the number one member of the group, who is currently at large.
They have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the dreaded cult group.
The state police command has been grappling with the activities of various dreaded cult groups in many parts of the state, especially in Mushin and its environs. The cultists engage in rivalry clashes almost on a daily basis, killing themselves and even innocent passers-by.
