Residents of Yan Buki in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Wednesday, October 7, packed the sum of ₦50 million inside a sack for onward delivery as ransom to bandits loyal to notorious Bello Turji.
The residents were said to have raised the money in order to secure the release of their abducted relatives and also as imposed tax levied by Turji Bello to the community.
A source close to the community told Impact Nigeria News Online on Thursday afternoon that leaders in the community went from house to house, especially those belonging to families of those in captivity to raise the ransom demanded by the bandits.
After the money was eventually raised, it was put inside a sack and four leaders from the community carried it to the bandits in the forest.
The source added that as of the time of this report, those in captivity have not been released as the family members continued to pray for their safe return.
In another positive development, on Wednesday night, bandits invaded Dangamau community in Kusada Local Government Area of Katsina State and abducted three persons.
The three victims have however been rescued following the swift response of soldiers and some brave residents who pursued the marauders, rescued the captives and reunited them with their families
The families of the victims have expressed their appreciation to the troops of 17 Brigade operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA and the brave residents for their courage and efforts in securing the release of the three victims.
