A young Nigerian who was trying to make ends meet in Libya after leaving Nigeria has been shot dead in the country.

The young Nigerian, whose name was given simply as Ahmed, was shot dead on October 19 by one of the two men who contracted him for a job.

According to reports, Ahmed was at Shogo Ground, a place where migrants used to gather while waiting for people to offer them work, looking for an opportunity to earn his daily bread.

However, on the fateful day, two Libyan men reportedly arrived and asked Ahmed and another migrant to work for them. They accepted, probably hoping the job would bring them a little money and help them get through another day.

However, while they were being taken to the supposedly place of work, the men stopped the car on a narrow road, brought out pistols and forcefully demanded their phones and money. Following his reported resistance, Ahmed was shot in the forehead while the other migrant was said to have fled.

According to a source in the know of the incident, officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Libya had been informed of the incident and they had alerted authorities in Libya who are said to have begun investigation into the tragic incident

Many young Africans who leave their countries because they are desperate for opportunities have come under attacks and humiliation in the North African country.

It will be recalled that more than 10,000 stranded Nigerians have been evacuated from the country in the last couple of months and those airlifted into the country gave tales of horror regarding their experiences in Libya.
