Democrats insist on Trump removal from office

Barely eight days to the expiration of the US President Donald Trump’s tenure in office, the Democrats in the House of Representatives are pushing forward an inglorious end of the president administration.

The Democrats have introduced a single impeachment article on Monday against Trump for his role in last week’s invasion of the US Capitol.

The impeachment article pointed out the president’s false claims that he won the presidential election and also his speech on January 6 before the invasion of the Capitol.

According to the article, the Democrats accused Trump of gravely endangering“the security of the United States and its institutions of Government.”

“He threatened the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transition of power, and imperiled a coequal branch of Government. He thereby betrayed his trust as President, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.”

The Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, had on Sunday evening told the Democrats that the House would proceed with bringing an impeachment resolution to the floor unless Vice President Mike Pence moves to invoke the 25th Amendment with a majority of the Cabinet to remove Trump from power.

She said that House Majority Leader, Steny Hoyer, would seek to take up a resolution from Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland on Monday urging Pence and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment, and if they were blocked, the House would consider the measure on Tuesday.

Democrats are calling on Pence to respond within 24 hours, she said. If that does not happen, Democrats will bring their impeachment resolution to the floor.

Meanwhile, Republicans in the House have urged Democrats not to move forward with impeachment, arguing that such a move would be divisive in the face of Biden’s calls for unity.

The President-Elect will take over the leadership of the country on 20th January, the handing over ceremony President Trump has said he would not attend.
