Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has pegged the maximum fine payable for any traffic offence in the state at N10,000, regardless of the nature of the offence, effective from October 14.
Soludo announced this on Tuesday, October 14, during a town hall meeting by transport stakeholders at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha.
A statement issued by Soludo’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, said the directive is aimed at easing the financial burden on motorists in Anambra State and part of his commitment to fostering a more inclusive and fair governance model that takes cognisance of economic realities.
The statement added that a task force would be set up to forestall illegal tax collections, while cash payments are properly remitted to the government coffers.
He said: “Starting from October 14, 2025, the maximum fine payable for any traffic offence in the state will be ₦10,000, regardless of the nature of the offence. The policy is designed to alleviate the economic strain on our people, particularly in a time when many are grappling with rising costs.
“Among other plans for transporters and road users is the importance of balancing law enforcement with compassion for the everyday challenges faced by drivers and citizens alike.
“We are partners in progress. We will set a special task force and enforcement against illegal tax collectors. Anybody that collects cash should remit it to the government coffers.”
Soludo also promised that the proper bus stops with proper markings are designated for the purpose by the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA).
He added: “While you contribute the best, you are also part of the greatest beneficiaries of this administration. From the available records, the kilometres of roads we have done and repaired, no government comes close in less than four years. It is for you.
“We assure you that development of Anambra State under this administration is just the beginning.”
The Commissioner for Transportation in the state, Patricia Igwebuike, commended transporters, stating that they have the numbers in the sector because they are in every home, and praised the governor for being in alignment with maritime, aviation, road transportation and blue economy.
