Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has donated ₦1 billion to support families displaced by recent attacks in Benue State. The donation, made through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), is aimed at helping victims of violence—many of whom lost their homes and livelihoods—to rebuild their lives.
The First Lady visited Benue on a condolence mission following the deadly attacks by suspected herdsmen on several communities in the state, which left many residents dead and hundreds displaced. Addressing the affected families, she expressed her deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and destruction of property.
Speaking on behalf of the governing council of RHI, Mrs. Tinubu said the donation aligns with the initiative’s goal of promoting stability and improving the welfare of families across Nigeria. “RHI will be making a donation of ₦1 billion to help displaced families get back on their feet, return to earning a living, and have a better life,” she said.
She further emphasized that despite the pain and loss, there is still hope. “As a mother, I urge all of us to learn to accept these times as very challenging. Our job is to play a complementary and supportive role,” she said, noting that it was heartbreaking to see innocent citizens longing for peace only to be met with violence.
The Renewed Hope Initiative, spearheaded by the First Lady, focuses on providing support to vulnerable groups and promoting sustainable family development across Nigeria. The Benue donation is one of the most significant humanitarian gestures by the initiative since its launch.
Victims and local leaders in the state have welcomed the gesture, calling it timely and impactful amid ongoing efforts to resettle displaced persons. The First Lady’s visit and donation are seen as a message of solidarity and a call for collective action in addressing the humanitarian crisis facing affected communities.
