The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has stated that 22 communities in Ibadan, Oyo State, will experience approximately three hours of daily power outage due to ongoing road construction.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, IBEDC attributed the outage to road construction works along Foodco Road and Idi Isin, which necessitated the relocation of some of its facilities and assets in the area.
It added that the relocation exercise has led to some electricity feeders being switched off for approximately three hours daily within the period.
The statement read, “Kindly be informed that due to ongoing road construction along Foodco Road, Idi Isin, Ibadan, IBEDC facilities and assets in the area are being relocated.
“Some feeders will be switched off for approximately three hours daily from Monday, January 5, to Friday, January 9.”
The distribution company said the affected areas include “Alalubosa GRA, Ogunkola, Museum, Akinola Maja, FRIN, Forestry College, Lead City, Lead British, House 18, Eleventh House, Commissionaire, Nursing Home, Sunrise, Post Housing, AMI Complex, ODUA, Police Headquarters, Apampa, The Heavens, Blossom Heritage, Polo Club and Baale Akintayo.”
The announcement, however, had customers complaining of poor or no power supply in areas not affected by the road construction and relocation exercise.
Some customers expressed their opinions on the DisCo’s Facebook page.
Odumesi Ifeoluwa said, “But what about those that are not affected? Why’s there no light at inward Ojoo?”
“Is this a New Year gift?” Taofiq Ayoade queried.
Oluwawumi Ademola Oyaniyi wrote, “At Aroro Makinde, Ojoo, Ibadan, we haven’t gotten light since 9 days now, and we don’t know why.”
Adekunle Mustapha added, “The hometown of the minister of darkness. Then who are we to complain?”
