A total of 954 explosive materials have been intercepted by men of the Zamfara State Police Command while they were being taken to bandits in the forest.
Also, a man was arrested in connection with the movement of the materials used to make explosive devices.
According to the command in a statement on Wednesday, on January 27, around 4:30 p.m., operatives of the Task Force on Illegal Mining of the command, acting on intelligence reports, intercepted the materials which led to the arrest of Mustapha Mohammad, aged 38 years, while driving a Toyota Corolla.
The officers were said to have carried out a thorough search of the vehicle which led to the recovery of the explosive materials, concealed in polyethylene bags.
The command added that preliminary investigations indicated that the materials were intended for use by bandits as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).“The suspect is currently in police custody, while the exhibits have been secured and handed over to the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team for safe custody and detailed analysis,” the command said.
“Investigation is ongoing to determine the source, destination, and intended use of the recovered materials, as well as to identify and apprehend other possible accomplices connected to the crime,” the statement added.
