The Minister of Justice and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami said that President Muhammadu Buhari suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu to allow for unhindered inquiry by the Presidential Investigation Panel under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act and other relevant laws.
The Minister in a statement released by his media aide, Umar Gwandu, said the President also approved the appointment of EFCC Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, as the acting Chairman pending the outcome of the investigation.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has also approved that the EFCC Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, should take charge and oversee the activities of the Commission pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation and further directives in that regards,” he said.
The embattled Magu is being probed by a presidential panel investigating alleged corruption and insubordination, allegations levelled against him by Malami.
The Minister accused Magu of insubordination and re-looting of recovered funds.
