The Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, has expressed concern over the removal of US outgoing President, Donald Trump from Twitter and other social media platforms.
Zakharova said the action of the owners of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat to remove Trump from their platforms has scary consequences.
The country compared the actions of the platforms to a “nuclear blast in cyber space.”
“A blow has been dealt against democratic values proclaimed by the West.”
Twitter suspended and subsequently removed Trump’s accounts last week following the deadly attack on the US Capitol by the outgoing President’s supporters.
The attack was said to have been his final push to stop the confirmation of Joe Biden as the November 3 presidential election winner by the Congress.
The Russian spokesman therefore advised American authorities to “take care” of their own country instead of criticizing Russia over a crackdown on independent media.
