The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Kehinde Alade by a police officer during a traffic enforcement operation on Monday, May 20, in Ibadan. The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. at the Airport Roundabout in the Egbeda Local Government Area.

According to police spokesperson Adewale Osifeso, the victim was in a vehicle driven by his father, Odunayo Alade, who allegedly violated traffic rules and attempted to evade arrest by driving against traffic and ramming into official vehicles. Officers reportedly suspected possible criminal activity and gave chase.

Scene of the incident

During the pursuit, a police corporal fired at the vehicle’s tyres, but the bullet struck Kehinde, who was seated in the back. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the University College Hospital.

The officer involved has been taken into custody as investigations continue. The command expressed condolences to the bereaved family and promised a transparent inquiry. Witnesses and viral footage have further fueled public concern over the use of force in the incident.
